New Umpire Requirements and Application
SAA Certification Classes start in January!Updated Monday December 15, 2014 by Saugerties Athletic Association.
As we continue to improve the operation and atmosphere of our adult softball leagues, we have reviewed and updated the requirements of the Umpiring in the SAA. We believe that the changes will benefit the league members, administration, fans and the Umpires, now and in the future.
All umpires will be required to take an SAA umpire certification class consisting of (2) 3 hr. sessions that will be offered in January, February and March above the large pavilion. If you cannot make weekends, we will also be offering special sessions to anyone who needs them. This is at NO COST to anyone interested in becoming an umpire. All administrators, managers and players are also welcome to attend. A certificate will be given, and no one will umpire in the SAA without it. Umpires will also be supplied with shirts and a cap that will also be a requirement this year to maintain the professionalism and pride that we all deserve. Anyone with Umpire Certifications from other organizations will be required to have an interview with John Freligh in order to get an SAA Training Certification.
Obviously, we are asking for more, expecting more and therefore we are offering more as far as pay. Umpires pay will increase to $40 (home plate) and $36 (bases) per game, making this a win-win for everyone involved. Positions are limited! Please be advise that taking the FREE training does not guarantee a umpiring position but makes you eligible.
