Scholarship Origins

The in 1994, when the Saugerties Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship awarded $500 to a graduating senior involved in athletics in the name of Jim Gage. A second scholarship, the Jack Keeley Memorial Scholarship, was introduced in 2006.

The Jim Gage Scholarship was only fitting as one of the hall’s co-founders. He served as its chairman from 1965 until he retired at the end of 2006. When the South Side Men’s Club went out of business six years after the hall had started, Gage led a group of dedicated former members in keeping it going, and when the reins were passed along to the Saugerties Athletic Association in 1974, Gage served as president.
